The Maritime Energy Transition Prize

TEM Price

Created in 2020, the Maritime Energy Transition Prize (TEM) was born of the joint desire of the Académie de Marine and Soper to raise public awareness and support initiatives promoting the energy transition within the maritime industry.

Representing 3 % of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, the maritime sector is a major stake in the energy transition. The mission of the TEM Prize is to support efforts to decarbonise the sector by highlighting promising operational solutions. Each year, it rewards a natural or legal person who has taken decisive action in this field.

Winner 2024

NEOLINE

As the winner of this 4th TEM Prize, we salute the resilience of the founders of NEOLINE, who have been promoting the idea of decarbonisation through sailing for a very long time. They have managed to adapt it to make it a reality. Their highly technical, innovative and reliable sails enable NEOLINE to offer vessels with a high level of decarbonisation, as well as an industrial solution that can be replicated in the emerging decarbonised shipping market. The first ship, Neoliner Origin, should be operational by summer 2025.

Winner 2023

SCLCMT Association - Shipper Coalition for a Low Carbon Maritime Transport

Winner of the third edition, this alliance brings together a dozen shippers and aims to build and then operate ships whose CO2 emissions will be 50% lower than those of conventional carriers. The concept is to join forces to design extraordinary container ships, propelled mainly by the force of the wind, combining technology and energy efficiency through the development of new aerodynamic structures, energy recovery technologies, tools for optimising the use of wind and alternative fuels.

Winner 2022

AYRO

AYRO, creator of the Oceanwings® wind propulsion system, which reduces the fuel consumption of commercial vessels by up to 45%, is the second winner of the TEM Prize. Like an aircraft wing standing vertically on its deck, Oceanwings® is automated and controlled by the AIUTO® onboard intelligence system. This technology is the result of the convergence of significant advances in the fields of aeronautics, robotics and shipping.

2020 Winner

The Port of Sète-Frontignan

The Port of Sète-Frontignan is the first winner of the TEM Prize. Thanks to the initiatives implemented as part of its 2015-2020 strategic project, the port has demonstrated a strong commitment to decarbonising its port activities. Since 2020, the port has become a "positive energy port", with the photovoltaic covering of 64,000 m² of port hangars, producing the equivalent of 2.5 times the annual consumption of the three Port Sud de France sites. This approach has been reinforced by the addition of electrical connections alongside the quayside, designed to accommodate very large yachts in the commercial port.
